Personally, I would have felt guilty not playing at all
if I'm given comped rooms. Nevertheless, I would have gotten
some kind of binding contact (even a signed note on a
napkin) indicating their intention to comp your room
not dependant on your play on your next stay. That would have made your
recourse (such as a credit card charge-back) easier.

Gang-.
Everybody weigh in on this one. I have just returned from Las Vegas. As I
posted in this NG a few weeks ago, I was contacted by a host at Aladdin
about a comped stay. Last year I won a $20K jackpot there, and had not been
back. So I am guessing that was the reason for the contact.
The host told me that the room during the trip (5 nights) was to be comped
UP FRONT. I WAS SURE to ask that, and yes was the answer, the room WILL BE
comped coming in. I despise the whole "playing for comps" thing, so I
definitely asked that question to be sure. Then, I was advised to "check
with a host before leaving" to see if further comps could be passed on
(food, shows, etc.).
So, it was a guy's trip, and it turned out that I did not play one dime in
the Aladdin. Not really on purpose, but this was the way it went. We were
all over town, and spent a lot of time in clubs, etc. On the next to last
night, I received a call that the room would not be comped because of this
zero play, and I would be charged a casino rate. The rate was $79 for the
three week nights and $109 for Fri and Sat.
Well, I was a little disturbed since I was told it would be comped up front,
but I guess I could see their point. No play AT ALL, but still I was told
differently.
So, on check out, I noticed that the rate for the weekend nights had
magically changed again to $149/nt. I was told this adjustment was made
because there was no play at all. True enough, but now this is the THIRD
rate I have received (from free, to $109, and now $149). I argued this, and
got it back down to the $109.
So gang, what do you think? I think when you book an offer that you get in
the mail, you have something solid as a point of reference that the room
really is complimentary, etc. It seems however, when you are contacted by a
host, and a verbal agreement is made, they can change the rules mid-trip,
and you really don't have a leg to stand on. This was my first experience
with this kind of "verbal agreement". With something solid like a paper
offer, I would have disputed this charge with the credit card company, but
in this case, I don't believe I have any option. I'm not terribly worried
about the cost, but certainly the Aladdin is off my radar screen for good. I
do understand that a point can be made for what they did, but it was done as
a change of the original (verbal) agreement, and that is not a fair
practice.
The best part is when I got the call from the host. She told me that all
could be avoided if I just played a level that would comp a room for 1
night. I asked what that level was, and she told me that (on my last night)
if I played 4 hours at $100 average bet, then the whole trip (room) would be
comped. She informed me that is the rate that usually comps a room for only
1 night, but if I would just do that on this one night, all 5 nights would
