Hi,
We have been lucky enough to visit LV twice, the first time was in May 2004 at the Bellagio and I passed the check-in guy $50 and asked for
a "nice" room as we were getting married.
I think it would be fair to say it worked well :-))
We ended up in some kind of deluxe room pretty high up, next to the
central belltower with an astonishingly good view of the strip. There
was a steam room, double shower and TV in the bathroom. The overall
quality of the room justified the $50 easily in my opinion.
Last time was May 10th-17th in the Stardust, I had intended to slip the
check-in clerk maybe a $20 or so, but her general demeanour and attitude
put me off. I kind of got the impression that she would have taken it
but not delivered.
If we were staying at one of the big name hotels then I would
definitely try for an upgrade with this method again, provided the clerk
looks like he/she might be up for it.
Good luck!
