Fine, Ace. So be it.
But one piece of advice you ought to take seriously is that as an
intelligent person you ought to take seriously what is being said to
you about your medical care and make every attempt to understand,
rather than relying on your sister's thumb's up. If the doc can't make
YOU understand, find another doctor.
Of course I understood what was wrong, and what was being done to
correct it. It was shown to me in a way I could easily understand it.
But the only way I could effectively explain the procedure myself is if
I had the same diagrams and or model to use in the demonstration.
What I had done wasn't a whole lot different than a inguinal hernia
repair I elected to have done several years ago IMO. I understand the
basics of what was done to repair my hernia, but I couldn't describe
it the way a surgeon could. What I did know, is that the hernia surgeon
was a very good surgeon, because I had him checked out. Would it have
made any difference If I had obtained the same understanding of the
procedure as a surgeon has? The procedure was the procedure, and needed
to be done. Whether or not I understood all of the intricacies,
didn't really mean a whole lot unless I was planning on performing
the surgery on myself, now did it?
As I understand it, before getting surgery, you make sure the surgeon
is skilled and reputable. Who all do you go to for that info? How about
someone you've known your whole life, who's been in the medical
profession for over 30 years? Who would be better at finding out about
a surgeon, me, or that person with 30 years experience in the medical
biz? Add to this that this medical professional whom I knew I could
rely on, not only had ready access to my surgeon's records, not only
was very familiar with his reputation, but had assisted him in actual
surgery as a surgical nurse a few times. I called her up, I asked her
if she could check up on Dr. So-in-so. She's says she's known Dr.
So-in-so for like 20 years, and had worked with him in the OR on many
occasions. What better reference could I possibly ask for?
One day your sister is a nurse practitioner-the next day she's a
surgical nurse?
Which is it?
How would your sister have access to the surgeon's medical records?
Would she be aware of any malpractice suits against the surgeon?
Your sister gives you an AOK on the surgeon.
Did the surgeon go over all the records he had on you and discuss it
professionally with your nurse practitioner sister?
As for understanding the procedure, like I said, I sat through an
orientation. I was showed what was going to be done. I was told about
the risks etc. I did EVERYTHING any patient is supposed to do before
getting surgery. ON TOP OF THAT, I had a medical professional in my
court backing up my responsibilities as a patient. How many surgery
patients do you know of that have someone with over 30 years experience
in the medical profession that they can unconditionally trust
implicitly, at their disposal?
So many of you were so determined as usual to fault with me.
I faked it, BIZZZT! Wrong.
I failed in my responsibilities as a patient, BIZZZT! Wrong
Any of you trying to catch me lying or acting irresponsibly regarding
this matter have failed miserably, as usual. Give it up already guys,
you lose.
