In dire need of R&R, we planned a 3 night stay in Vegas, then it grewby
3 more nights thanks to the time share folks at Consolidated Resorts. Youin
may notice that sleep is a big part of the vacation. It is meant to be. We
also only eat once a day, and I drink 6-10 a day when in LV, 6-10 a month
the real world. Me and the Misses have been married quite a while and areflowery
good buddies. We don't gamble much but find the atmosphere in LV to be
refreshing as we live in Salt Lake. We often wear matching Hawiian
shirts, just for the comments. We get lots of 'em.0500
We left our place in Kanosh Utah (170 miles south of Salt Lake) at
and headed south on I-15. After a stop at the Cedar City WalMart to pickup
Moses shoes (cheap sandals), a belt and a few other things we forgot, wecheck
finally pulled into the Gold Coast at about 9:30 PDT. Much to my surprise,
they wouldn't let us check in early. Then they wouldn't even allow us to
check our bags, two small/medium sized duffles. This had never happened to
us before. I always get there early, and the hotels have always let me
in. OK, so I will just get the bags out of the back of the truck (the carSOBs
has been acting up) ,. Nope, they wouldn't take our bags either. Snooty
too. A first in bad service at a Coast Hotel. Maybe it's just the GC, andShops.
not all of them. The Barbary has always been excellent, and they apologize
for that.
After deciding this was our last stay with the off strip Coasties, we
got back in the truck and went to the Silverton to check out Bass Pro
We checked our bags there, no problem, and gambled for several hours. Bassam
Pro Shops was nice, but I have been to 3 different Cabela's stores, so I
hard to impress. The folks there were very nice, and we enjoyed themorning
and early afternoon. I lost ten bucks on VP, but the drink service wassettled
excellent. I tip well. I got my usual deck of cards, we picked up our
luggage, tipping generously, and we headed back to the Gold Coast.
We waited in line at 2:30 to check in, and went to our room. We
in, looked the place over and headed to the Rio for a few hours.back
We had tickets to see Gordon Lightfoot at the Orleans, so we headed
to GC and hopped the shuttle, and made the mistake of eating at theOrleans
Buffet. They must have relocated the Boardwalk Buffet. I will notelaborate
further.and
Gordon Lightfoot is almost 70, and he has had some health problems,
his voice isn't what it was. He sang a few of my favorites, while a drunkeventually
behind us was yelling for what he wanted to hear, loudly. He was
escorted out by some nice men in uniforms. They received applause. It wasa
good show and GL got 2 curtain calls.looking
We hopped the shuttle back to GC and slept a long time.
Monday morning found my wife at the Ceasars Palace Salon getting a
facial for 90 minutes. I wandered that section of the strip and met her at
the salon door on her way out. We strolled the Forum, hand in hand,
at the stuff. My wife bought some stuff at Bath & Body Works. We walkedCarlo
through Paris, Alladin, MGM, Hooters, Tropicana, NYNY, past the Monte
(why didn't we stay there?) and the boarded and partially demolishedthe
Boardwalk. We had dinner at the Bellagio Buffet. The food and service are
always excellent or better and no screaming kids or drunken rowdies. I ate
plenty and was not hungry when I left. We got back to the GC and went to
pool. It is open till 9:00, and we had the pool to ourselves mostly tillit
closed. Then I got to watch a Law and Order rerun on the TV, The storyline
was ya and but theh alappkzzzzzzzzzzzz..little
Tuesday morning we walked over to the Rio and took the shuttle to the
Convention Center. We spent the day at the Harware Show, seeing very
that impressed me. Lots of Pakistani, Indian, Korean, and Chineseof
manufacturers looking for work and new product ideas to rip off. Got lots
crap to take home. Y'all need a pen?overly
We ate dinner at the Village Seafood Buffet at the Rio. I was not
impressed with the food or service, but it was very expensive. Anotherof
evening at the pool and asleep by 10.
Wednesday morning we drove to Primm. My wife wanted to ride the
Desperado. We stopped in Jean and lost a few dollars, got my usual decks
cards. Those places are nicer than they look from the road. We got toPrimm,
Very nice places, and no crowds, it was Wednesday after all, but thea
Desperado don't run on Wednesdays. Heartbroken, we lost a few dollars, had
real good lunch at Buffalo Bills Buffet. They have an excellent salad barpromo.
and the rest of it is also very good. I put a buck in a penny slot while
waiting for someone... played 5 @ 2 credits and hit for $10. I got some
cards and we headed back to LV.
We had to switch hotels, as the second 3 nights were a time share
We checked into the Riviera about 4:00, settled into our room and headedfor
the pool. It isn't the Monte Carlo "pool complex", but it is nice enough, her.
big and the water was cool and clear. Of course, my wife was the best
looking woman there and all those young gals were obviously jealous of
Then we got our free mugs and wandered down to the Venetian. We like togo
browse at the Regis Gallery, though we never buy anything but one of those
little boxes as a gift for someone, we still have one in a box from last
year. Back to our room for more sleep.
We woke up late on Thursday and got a couple free mugs before we took
the "little bus" to Tahiti Village for two hours of "buy it right now or
to hell". There was no "here's my card, call me if you change your mind".possible.
That makes it easy for me to say "NO". So we got sent down the back stairs
to wait in the sun till the bus took us back to the Riv. Then were back in
the pool until dinnertime. Dinner at the Wynn Buffet. Damn. This was the
best place I have ever eaten. Not to take anything away from the Bellagio,
but this was a step above in both service and quailty, if that is
Damn, but the food, service and the room itself were phenomenal. I thinkit
was $32, but worth every dime. Deserts ahhhhhhhhhhh! Not the biggestwandered
selection, but it was all top rate plus. Enough on that... Then we
down the strip to cash in our "Promotional slot vouchers" at the Casinoof
Royale. It was a tease, nothing more, but the drink service was excellent
and when we lost all our credits without hitting a jackpot we joined their
slot club, got another voucher, lost those credits and left. Sleep came
easily.
Friday morning we woke up, went for a brisk walk, and drove back to
Primm Valley and Buffalo Bills. The Desperado doesn't run till 11:00 so we
played nickel VP for a few hours. The drink service was good. I am a good
tipper. Finally it was 11:00 and my wife got on that magnificent roller
coaster. My neck is held together with metal plates and screws, so I don't
ride anymore. I boogied up to the monorail platfrom to get her picture as
it sped by. I got back to the ride entrance, she wanted to go again, "but
course my love" and off she went. For those of you that may have beenthere,
my lovely bride is the one that screamed loud enough to damage your ears.We
offer no apologies. My wife is a rollercoaster junkie and I will get her abeen
fix any time I can. We ate lunch at the Buffalo Bill Buffet again. It was
just as good as Wednesday was.
We headed back to LV, went for a swim and went across the street. That
part of the strip looks strange with Westward Ho gone. SlotsOFun smelled
like a New Jersey Turnpike mens room and was almost as clean.(yes, I've
there) We got through there and went into CircusCircus. I hit a slot fora
good amount and we headed for the Adventuredome in seach of air hockey. Wea
played for a while and went over to the Stardust, did what I had to to get
$10 token at the SilverStrike machine, then back to the Riv, sat at anickel
slot and donated several dolars while sucking down several $1 margueritas.wanted
Sleep came easily again.
We woke up, got our stuff together, got in the truck and were back in
Kanosh by 11:00 AM and after some farm work we were in SLC before 8:00.
We had a great trip, saw everything we hadn't seen before that we
to, ate well, I drank my share, though not as much as it might seem, andwe
lost about $150 at the various Casinos. The Tahiti Village package waswhat
I expected, as was my response to it. The room at the Gold Coast was OK,but
it was cheap, so that makes it a good value, but I will not return to aI'm
place that wouldn't take my bags prior to checkin. The service there was
poor at best and we spent no time or money at their casino, shops or
resturaunt. The Riviera was a nice room, decent service and free, though
told the room would have been $100 a night. I would stay there again.MonteCarlo.
For what it is worth, next time in LV we will be back at the
We have been there3-4 times and the pool is as nice as I want, the roomsare
nice and the service has always been excellent.sleep.
Trip winners: Seven days with my Wife, Buffalo Bills, the Desperado
coaster, Gordon Lightfoot, Wynn Buffet, Bellagio Buffet and all that
Trip Loosers: I'll never see the Stardust again, Missed getting
downtown, wasted a meal at the Orleans and piss poor service at the Gold
Coast.
What happened in Vegas, got reported.
