Re: Your feet and Vegas

My podiatrist did indeed tell me that in his opinion New Balance makes
the best athletic shoes, but said that this was referring to the 1200
series. I ran out and bought a 1212 pain when he told me.
$120-----can't believe I bitched so much when my sons wanted $100 shoes
when I was paying for them.

Most newbies have no conception as to how important their feet are when
visiting Vegas.
Firstly and most importantly, Vegas is a walking town, whether you stay
on the Strip or downtown, you are going to be walking a great deal.
Secondly, if perchance you get hooked on my favorite game, craps, you
need to get prepared to do a lot of standing.

Although I am not a podiatrist but a primary care doc, I feel very
qualified to provide you with a few recommendations:

Wear shoes that are comfortable and fully worn in. Sneakers, running
shoes, or whatever you might exercise in are the best as long as they
have good cushions and arch supports. They also should preferrably let
your feet breath a little rather than being all leather. If the arch
supports are questionable, and even if they SEEM okay, I recommend
Superfeet inserts to replace them ($19.95 a pair but worth it---can be
ordered on-line).

Women----don't wear heels or flat flats. Pamper your feet for once,
instead of subjecting them to torture.

I'm sure others will have equally good suggestions. Just take care of
those dogs!

I'm an avid walker, and probably do as much recreational walking per
week in Vegas as any tourist.
And when it's hot out, a lot of that walking is done indoors. What a
great city Vegas is were you can walk for miles indoors. I think our
favorite indoor trek is from Excalibur through Luxor and into and all
over Mandalay Bay. Now that's walkin'.

As I take a size a 13 2E, I wear the New Balance brand because they
place a lot of emphasis on the fact that people have wide ranging foot
sizes. I wear those meshy walker/hiker high shock absorption deals
which are so lightweight, cool and roomy, I can barely feel them. I can
put in a good 20 miles a day in those babies before my dogs can start a
barkin'. I can't help but sometimes notice all those overweight
tourist trudging along in dress shoes. Ouch.
