I can't compare costs because I'm not familiar with Las Vegas prices,
but Reno is growing rapidly and house prices have gone up substantially
in the last 3 years. I read recently that the average price of a new
home is about $240,000.

There are new developments on every side of town. There are also many
nice neighborhoods in the older areas. Just my opinion, but I would
avoid anything near the downtown core (nice to visit, but you wouldn't
want to live there - although several of the old casino buildings are
being converted to luxury condos), anything west of downtown Sparks to
downtown Reno, Sun Valley and the areas east of South Virginia Street
from downtown to Meadowood Mall.
