You know Trout am not 1 to disagree with you, BUT historically the ratings
by PC World and Consumer Reports were that Dell had excellent Service...

That's their telephone tech support. And with it being outsourced to India(?) I wonder if it is still as good as when I was able to speak to people in Texas.


I agree with SENIOR TROUT! (can't believe I said that)

The out of box problems are difficult to fix. I was a institutional purchaser of DELL computer equipment and we often had problems with orders our people made - Dell substituting various components, like different hard drive size, not right monitor, not exact memory upgrade that was ordered, modems not included, etc... and to mail them back and wait, and all the hassle - I WILL ONLY BUY MY PERSONAL PC FROM A LOCAL BUSINESS WITH REAL PEOPLE WHO CAN PROVIDE IMMEDIATE SUPPORT AND SERVICE.

My Dell Hell began when I purchased a Dell laptop. I am very computer literate so I don't often contact Tech Support. However, upon receiving this Dell I could not get dial up networking to work -- it became clear to me that the modem was dead. I called and they gave me pretty much what they gave you -- checking and rechecking things I had done already, etc. and then said I should send back my computer for "repair". I said this is a brand new out of the box computer and I don't want it repaired, I want it replaced. They said they could not do that.

A lot of people received the correct order and it worked fine.

But it does mean that if it does not work well, or if the order is incorrect, there is not a clean and immediate solution to problems with DELL.
