This was followed by an English translation in smaller type, and finally
the letterhead, so to speak, of the Toronto Public Health department.

Until I read the last line I pictured somewhere in Indonesia.
It made me think of Indonesia too -- for one thing, I remembered that
they have a mountain there named Gunung Galunggung.  But if Skitt's
wife, who he identified as a Filipina, helped him with it, I guess the
language is actually Tagalog.  This is about the 9th most popular
language here, which makes me wonder how many other versions of the
poster there are.
I suppose some parts of Indonesia are not very far from the Philippines, and
both probably have several languages and dialects, some of which might even be
related.

MapQuest shows it's about 50 miles from Tawi-Tawi, the end of a chain of
Philippine islands, to the coast of Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Indonesia is not as united as you might think. The natives of Borneo
probably admit to being Indonesian only when members of the military are
present.

I think a lot of people round thereabouts got thrown without a
by-your-leave into Indonesia because of American, British, and
Australian communistophobia. New Guinea, for one, is now irreparable.

It's a nice irony that the commies proved to be the paper-tigers.
Perhaps Mao is an early example of what the psychologists call
'projection'.
