Is murder really all that frequent? I see this objection to death

Frequent enough to make its control a matter of importance to governments.
I don't buy that. Governments see importance in matters that concern
voters, it doesn't matter whether the concerns are rational or not.
I have also heard that those who have more control over their deaths
tend to live longer. Minds at ease, that sort of thing.
I'm not sure how you'd test that idea. How would you decide who has
control over their deaths? All of us, except those with extreme
disabilities, have access to methods of suicide. None of us can
guarantee we won't get a terminal illness, or fall victim to a fatal
accident. Your idea doesn't seem terribly self-evident to me. I'd go for
'People who can calmly accept the good and bad we are all faced with
have their minds more at ease than other people, but I'm still not
convinced that having your mind at ease makes you live longer. Somehow,
it seems almost irrelevant to the length of your life.
I have heard it claimed, I don't know how or if it was tested. I would
have thought that knowing you have the choice would help avoid
depression and depression would be a major factor in suicide or
"failure to thrive".
