Right for wrong reason

Hello All!
My more liberal acquaintances sometimes tell me that I am "right for the wrong reasons". I wonder if anyone can suggest a single word with that meaning. An example might be that I oppose the death penalty mainly because it is irreversible, not because of its cruelty.
