Regarding my earlier message about being away for a few days: I've read
the replies so far, and have printed them for reference. Thanks so much
for your suggestions.

Follow-up:

1. I have the new PC installed (thanks to my son), and most things are
working well. The keyboard, however, doesn't seem to like spaces; it's
always leaving them out, and I have to go back and insert them. (Yes, I
suppose it /could/ be that I'm not hitting the spacebar hard enough.)

2. By the way, not every file/etc. I wanted to load onto the new PC has been
loaded. (QuoteFix is one of the not-yet-in-place items.) I may end up just
letting go of some things. I mean, how important are all those old emails,
jokes, and posts?*

* Well, some of them matter to me, so I won't just throw the whole
collection out.

3. For Evan K.: I had some difficulties coordinating the new HP PC and the
old (but still fairly new) HP printer, so I called the HP help line. The
gentleman I spoke to (in hopes of getting the two things to cooperate) was
wonderful. The problem wouldn't have been solved without him.

4. Also, I tried buy something online (from Webroot -- anti-virus and
something else I can't remember now) and the ordering process worked fine
until the download. That didn't work. So I emailed their Help Department and
got an automated response telling me what might be the problem (based on
keywords I used, I suppose). What the modern-day version of an automaton
told me was of absolutely no use: I am not a techie.

Tomorrow (oops, it's after midnight, so okay, later today) I'll try their
phone number if I can find it. I'm already envisioning being charged for
something I didn't get -- and can't get. If that happens, I will not let up
until things are rectified.

You keep using the strangest of words.
What is a 'Help Department'?

"Help Department" is a generic name for that part of a company that
provides help to customers. It is descriptive. A company may have a
different name for their help department, Customer Services, or Customer
Care for instance.
