I toss all this stuff out, sort by type of metal, steel

of crooks stealing those dishes off roofs then bringing

Although I sympathize, I find this funny. It's bad enough there are "tipping fees" at landfills, but taking mugshots of people throwing out old wire? In what way do the police hope to trace the wire to a particular complainant who has experienced theft or burglary? It's beyond foolish.

This policy applies to people who bring large amounts
of wire or large amounts of specific items, all the same.
Soda cans are exempt.

Notion is to discourage theft of wire. This is a big problem
and a growing problem. I read of some neighborhoods, of some
small regions, losing power, losing communications, losing
internet connections because of wire theft. People will
steal wire which is "hot" and dangerous.

Satellite dishes, good example. These are stolen by the
hundreds and require thieves to climb up on the roofs
of homes. Those boys are not Santa Clause.

Mug shots discourage this, sorta. Mug shots also give
police leads to chase down. I write "sorta" because
the average class of people who engage in recycling
as a living, as employment, these people would not be
considered the brightest boys on the block. Reads to be
discriminatory, but I have yet to see any people at our
metal salvage yard I would allow within fifty feet of me.

These are people who are either scared to death of being
photographed and identified, or simply do not care. Either
way, this policy makes stealing wire more risky.

If those boys were smart, they would build a monkey spaceship,
then send those chimpanzees into space to snatch up satellites
worth millions of dollars. I am certain, based on weight, they
could bring in an easy hundred dollars for scrap metal value
per satellite. Might need bigger trucks, though.
