In Chicago, WGN's TV program with Harmon was so popular for so long,
it was said that the first thing one had to do when a baby was born
was to request a ticket to the show -- then, just maybe, the ticket
would get the child admitted before he or she became a teenager.
When I was around six or seven, I attended the show at WGN as part of
a birthday party for a friend whose parents had, I believe, put in
their request soon after he was born. So back in 1964 (five years
after it started in Chicago), the wait wasn't quite that long.
WGN;s Bozo was played by Bob Bell. I liked him better than Harmon.
Oops -- I should have read the Wiki entry for Bozo the Clown more
carefully. Larry Harmon in LA was basically the franchisor for local
TV stations having their own, local Bozo show. The entry confirms
that the Chicago clown, WGN TV, was Bob Bell, thusly:
One example is the voice and laugh of WGN-TV Chicago's Bob Bell, who
also wore a red costume throughout the first decade of his portrayal.
[Talking about Bozo's who varied from the franchise parameters.]
Sorry!
