Seems that some Muslim women in France are having a 'hymen' retro-fit
before getting married.

The front page of the global edition of The Times today has a story of a
Muslim marriage that was annulled by a French court on the grounds that
the bride was not a virgin.

<http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/global/>

The article presents it a little differently - the court annulled the
marriage because the woman lied before her marriage about her state of
virginity, and the annulment wasn't opposed by the woman. If the groom
felt that was an essential element of the marriage, and the bride lied
to him about it, she was complicit in giving it importance.
Quoting the second-last paragraph,

"The annulment was defended by Xavier Labbée, the lawyer who acted for
Ms Y. The decision was justified by the bride?s deception, not her
sexual history, he argued. ?Quite simply it is about a lie,? he said.
'Religion did not motivate the decision . . . but it is true that
religious convictions played a role.'"
