It is, but "archaic". The following is a cut-and-paste from a
newsgroup. The poster is a person who appears occasionally in aue:

"Take a very careful look at the 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED
AFS lense. It is one of the best consumer lenses that
Nikon makes, and is a nice "walk around" lense for a DX
format camera."

I can't find a reference to "lense" in any dictionary, including OED. It looks like a promulgated error to me.
