Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant speaks fluent Italian! Who

I can remember before people used the expression "Who knew?" in that
conversational context, but I don't remember when I started hearing
it. Possibly in the 1980s.
This is the sort of language question that it is hard to look up.
Never heard it. What does it mean? Is it ironic?
What's so unusual about it? I means what it says. Besides, I knew.
Kobe lived in Italy from age six to age thirteen.
Oh, well, I know what "who knew?" literally means. I thought from the
way the question was phrased that this was a non-literal meaning.
Try as I may, I cannot dispel the feeling that "Who knew?" in a sentence
on its own is somehow accusatory. As if those privy to the deadly secret
would duty bound to reveal it for the general good. Speaking fluent
Italian doesn't seem too awful a crime to me, but then I don't know much
about baseball or about Los Angeles.
