Most e-way ramps I'm used to go downward for entering cars and
upward for exiting cars.

However, my experience is limited to certain Interstate Highways
and a few in-town expressways (which are sometimes called "the
ditches"). So, which way is up? On or off? (I suppose that
question could apply to light switches, but haven't we done that topic more at least once?)

Around here, it depends on the lay of the land. A lot of the time
it's flat. Sometimes the freeway is above the crossroad, sometimes
below. You never know, you know.

Sure, but I've never seen an "on ramp" that went upwards. I'm not
saying they don't exist -- I've just never seen one (that I
remember).

Ah, there's one ramp I use to enter a freeway around here that has a
pretty fierce upward slope..
Plenty of our freeways are above the crossroads, but at
entries, they seem to be below. Circumstance or design?

Wait just a minute -- the freeway is above the crossroad ... you want
to enter it on a downward slope ... I don't think that'll work.

I meant the freeways are sometimes above the crossroads, but when
there's an entrance ramp, the freeway has already gradually dipped
downward so that the entry will be downward. So: Enter going down,
exit going up.

Am I making any sense? It's been a hectic weekend so far, so maybe
not.

Oh, you are making sense, but you must have very humpy freeways. Ours stay pretty much level and let the crossroads have the humps, or whatever it takes.
