"Retroactively" is not the only
possibility when you are searching for the converse of "proactively".
Propose a serious alternative.
Proactive: 2[2pro- + reactive] : acting in anticipation of future problems,
needs, or changes.
Retroactive: : extending in scope or effect to a prior time or to
conditions that existed or originated in the past;
Incidental: 1 a: being likely to ensue as a chance or minor consequence
<social obligations incidental to the job> b: minor 12: occurring merely by
chance or without intention or calculation.
Reactive: 1: of, relating to, or marked by reaction or reactance
(All definitions from Merriam Webster online)
In the conext of comparing killing an animal by choice for food vs. eating
roadkill, "incidental" is a much better converse to "proactive" than
"retroactive" is.
