I observe:
A sequence of triangle, ellipse, rectangle, repeated in order.
Triangles go equilateral, right isoceles (hence my earlier suggestion
of scalene next).
Ellipses go semi-ellipse, full ellipse.
Rectangles go square, non-square.

All shapes are of equal heights between imaginary parallel horizontal
lines. The image strip could be just part of something taller seen
through a virtual letterbox. The shapes could be representative of
the bottom or top halves of other shapes, for example. There's a
temptation to reflect them, up or down.

The key could be in the white spaces between solid black shapes.

Some of the shapes could represent letters: A U ? L O(?) M-or-W, and
others if reflected or extended.

Or the puzzle could just be plain old find a rule to generate each
shape from one or more others, and apply it. From the position of
the ? shape, the sequence probably runs left to right.

Tra la la? Bother the flowers that bloom in the spring. Pooh, bah.

The
shapes are entirely arbitrary, and there's no point in reasoning about
them. You either recognize where they come from or you don't.

As it happens, being active as a singer and composer in related genres, I
do.

The next shape is the one known as the "ice cream cone", a downward pointing
isosceles triangle surmounted by a circular segment (convex side facing
upward), representing the movable-do solfège syllable TI in the seven-shape
Aiken system of patent notes, as seen here:
