Just heard "tilly room" on one o' tham thar TV property shows. :)
Has it made it into the OED?
Not meaning "little", which I think is a coinage by Stella Gibbons
in CCF. The old man who did the washing up was so taken with the
"tilly mop" Flora gave him that, IIRC, he put it in a jar on the
windowsill to look at, and continued doing the dishes with, I
don't know, a handful of gorse or something.
Wasn't that "liddy"?

Gosh, I don't know, now that you cast doubt! That isn't in OED at
all. Anybody got a copy of /Cold Comfort Farm/ handy?
That nice Mr Google has one:

Adam used a "thorn twig" to cletter the dishes instead of Flora's
"liddle mop" - the relevant section is on pages 109 and 110.
Ah, thank you. Another Pernicious Error bites the dust. I wonder where I
got "tilly" from. In this new sense of "utility" as in room, it's
another one of these stinky-pooh baby-talks I weelly weelly hate, and I
hope it dies out forthwith.
