When my father died at age 97, he left boxes full of one-sided 78's,
dating from 1915 or before. My sister said that most showed
scratches, and asked what to do with them. She pitched them in the
trash disposal with my full concurrence -- life is too short to get
caught up in so much old stuff, IMO.
That's why I made a project to get rid of something, via donnation or
discarding, every week. Once a thing gets old, you get somehow
attached to it, even if it's completely useless. So getting rid of it
now it's easier than getting rid of it next year.
I kind of wish I could hear some of them, though....r
A donnation to public library is always welcome. Our local library has
a special "Antiques" room with books, casettes, discs, DVD, etc sold
at nominal prices. I always visit that room and quite often I find a
"treasure", i.e. someone else's trash.
Our local library -- volunteer run -- has the same thing but it takes in everything that's on offer. The Saturday opening is one of the highlights of the week and people come from far away to pick up real bargains. There's also have a second-hand book sale once a month. Both activities raise several thousand Canadian dollars a year for new books.
Cheers, Sage
