Interesting stuff. I am surprised by the "Not for sale outside Canada"
statement, and wonder why it's there, and what organization or
government requires it.
A common reason for export limitations is to protect distribution arrangements in other countries. If I have a contract with you granting you exclusive rights to distribute my product in your country, you would expect me to take what steps I could to deliver those exclusive rights. In some jurisdictions, I can use my trademark rights to stop parallel imports of my trademarked product from another of my markets if I have clearly refused re-export permission when selling into that other market.
It's also in my interest to enforce this if I formulate the product differently for the different markets, because I don't want extra-sweet cornflakes designed for the Scots palate to end up being spat out by savoury-loving [someone else], or because of different labelling or ingredient legislation from country to country.
Anyone care to add cereal box data from other countries?--
Paul
