Spending the night in the shower... much safer and
more comfortable.

Of course nothing compare to crime fighting in the jungle.
But you did not finish the story, was the kidnaper lion eventually
apprehended?

Yes - about a week later and 50 or so miles away by a colleague
who looked after the next gombolola. (Gombolola is an administrative
subdivision - sort of bigger than a parish but less then a county)

This guy fit the classic pattern of a man-eater - older male kicked
out of his territory by a younger one - judging by his wounds which
also prevented him going after his natural prey and resorting
to the easier slower stuff in inhabited areas. He was also having
a severe problem with tooth decay/loss which was likely
compounding the problem that brought him into contact with
civilisation.

A little while later I had a second case which I handled
successfully and was more of a mystery. This was a female
only a little beyond her prime - no reason to be expelled from
the pride. Appeared fit and with an excellent set of teeth
which could have done me in properly and made a right old
mess if I hadn't done my job right.

The rules were that anything with trophy value (i.e. hide or
whatever) had to be turned in to HQ so that a taxidermist
could fix it up for sale to some rich tourist, and the funds go back
in the game dept's coffers. However, in both cases the skulls
were kept for comparative study/analysis and "mine" was
eventualy returned to me. I still have it and decided to
immortalize same on the web - pictures fresh today...
