It's interesting that someone made a reference to the JSTOR site.
When I perform searches on Google, every once in a while a JSTOR
article will come up in the list of results. Judging from the
various snippets that Google has given me, the site appears to have
some really great information on some of my favorite topics, and
much of it is available nowhere else on Google.

JSTOR is a collection of academic journal articles, and I agree about
that great information.

Unfortunately, when
one clicks on Google's link to a JSTOR page, it will not show the
entire article: it seems that one needs to register with them as an
"authorized user", or some such thing. Is there anything I can do
about this?

You might be able to get access through a local public library. The
only one around here I've seen that claims to have it is the San
Francisco Public Library, which will give a card to any California
resident. I'm planning on picking one up for just this reason the
next time I'm up in the City. (I've already got a Los Angeles Public
Library card to get access to the _LA Times_ archive and the OED and a
Santa Clara County Library card to get access to the _New York Times_
archive.)

I think I'll be able to get access because my employer, a community
college, can get me a "passport" to other college libraries, some of
which subscribe to JSTOR and other useful services. So my advice to
you, Daniel, is to talk to any librarian you can and see what you can
parlay into what.
