Maybe you're right, "offended" might not be the right word, but I
don't know which word is right.
Let me give you an example: suppose someone makes an anti-semite joke,
you take offense and the joker tells you that his comment was not
addressed to you, so "offended" you should not be.

In our case, I may not be in Maria's age group, but I belong to some
other common groups, besides the general women's group.We may share
some similar tastes; I've never noticed Maria would have a preference
for the kind of humor you displayed in the "jailbait" message, but I
know she is a good sport and a very gracious conversationalist. That's
why I disliked your joke (in lieu of her disliking it) and I take
offense in someone using the word "nit wit" on this thread.
