You are entirely correct that my confusion is not related to
those eighteen thousand rules. I find your style of debate
difficult and confusing to follow, much more so than that
of most other regulars in this group, whatever the subject.
I can think of several explanations for that; the one that
seems most charitable to all concerned is that people in your
field (English) debate in a style that seems foreign to someone
with my educational background (mostly math/CS).

English is not PG's "field." Unless she is deliberately engaged in a
major spoofing operation, she knows less about English usage than any
reasonably fluent high school graduate. The reason her "style of
debate" is "difficult and confusing to follow" is that she makes it
all up as she goes along. She mischaracterizes, misquotes, and takes
words out of context so she can reply to things never said. If that
won't work, she simply ignores whatever she is purportedly replying to
and invents a bunch of stuff. Or she insults her interlocutors, or
photoshops them, or starts spinning totally off-the-point yarns.

Her occasional attempts to cozy up to a female participant tend to
collapse under the weight of her persiflage. I suspect you're about
ready to bail out on her. Don't let me stop you.

Left brain
versus right brain? Linear thinking versus -- something else?
I'm tempted to cite C.P. Snow's "two cultures", but I don't
remember enough specifics to do so with any confidence that
whatever distinction he makes is relevant.

The answer is: None of the above. I've got her number. (I'm hardly
alone in this; it's just that I'm one of the very few who bother to
express it.) Just reread what I wrote above.

You are on the outside looking in with confusion, I am on
the inside grinning back at you like the Cheshire cat.

Can a cat without a body be beheaded?

I don't know, but I'm starting to think that perhaps this
*is* all some kind of strange head game.

Bingo!
