Hi,

Better" I read this today."You told me you will be away on a trip"
Is this sentence in common use?
I mean in English spoken
It's Standard English, written and spoken. I can't tell you the
frequency of use (it gets zero on Google with + signs before each
word), but I doubt very much that a native speaker, hearing it, would
think there was anything wrong with it.
Sounds wrong to me. I would have said "would" or "were going to". In
fact, the more I think about it, the weirder "will" sounds.
Depends on the context. If the speaker is surprised at seeing the person addressed, because that person is supposed to be away on a trip, then "would" or "were going to" might be better.
If the discussion is about some trip in the future, YL's sentence is a better one.
