So I've got a phrase here, was just wanting some feedback on what
you think about my decision(s):
'Text A provides further guidance on criteria...such as water
quality, emissions and so on.'
do you think 'and so on' is redundant? I was thinking that 'such
as' indicates that the items listed are only _some_ examples;
surely 'and so on' is superfluous?
thus:
'Text A provides further guidance on criteria...such as water
quality and emisions.'
That's all the I can really change with the sentence - so please
just help directly with my question if that's possible, thanks.
This is best:
'Text A provides further guidance on criteria, such as water
quality and emissions.'
It's redundant to combine "such as" or "for example" with "and so on"
or "etc." All of these phrases imply that the examples are a partial
list of possibilities.
