I've just started reading a book where the verb "bale out" (in the sense
of escaping from an unpleasant situation) made several appearances in
the first few pages. The writing was otherwise of good quality, so I was
a little shocked by the misspelling of "bail out".
I always thought that one "baled out" of a broken aeroplane, but "bailed out"
the water from a boat.
