Michael Dayzman:
I need to send an email to all staff members informing them that when
technicians visit their office, they should give the technicians access
to their computers. Should I write "Please surrender your computer to
the technicians"? But, "surrender" sounds a bit excessively obligatory
to me.
Athel C.B.:
If you want to say that they should give the technicians access to
their computers, why not word it that way: "Please give the technicians
access to your computers when they visit your offices"?
Agreed.
I agree that "surrender" isn't the best word.
It's the wrong word. It means the technician will take the computer and it
won't be returned.
