Not too much. If I'd read it more carefully I'd have noticed that I'd
written "esta grupa" when I meant "este grupo".

Ha! And here am I thinking you were referring to the hindquarters of a horse...Well-spotted! Me has echado una buena zancadilla...

However, I suppose
getting the gender of "group" wrong is less serious than getting the
sex of a person wrong (as in referring to Mike as "her").

That was my fault for being imprecise where the context was not clear, not his. I should have said hombre, and then there would have been no confusion...Julian is not at fault.

Aunque parece que hablas bastante bien el castellano,

Not as well as I'd like, but improving slowly.

Looks good enough to me.

And please bear in mind that this stupid little fracas began because a
few of you were too fucking graceless to help a couple of Spaniards >>with
their English.

No, please, I think you put it too strongly, and you risk getting off
on the wrong foot with the group.

I have been reading this group for months, and enjoying it.
I shall continue to do so.

However, in a group devoted to
English usage it's probably reasonable to expect most of the discussion
to be in English.

The Spanish guys have made all their posts in English, have they not?

I tend not to notice if people ask questions related to their homework
or questions of a commercial nature, but I sympathize with people who
do notice and discourage such questions.

I really don't think that was the case, and would it really matter if it provoked a discussion?
The notion that a simple sentence about an ineffective website should somehow be leaving someone's kids without shoes on their feet is a bit far-fetched, even for a old caveman like me!

OK, maybe Mike jumped to a wrong conclusion too quickly, but you're
making too much of it.

Yes, I probably am, along with others. The whole thing is becoming a little childish.
Good luck with your Spanish.
