I consider the wrapping of URLs to be more than a missing
feature, frankly, but I don't if it's a violation of some
RFC or not.

RFC 3986, Appendix C: "Delimiting a URI in Context":

<http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3986.txt>

(Formerly RFC 2396, Appendix E.)

As far as I can see, it's not really a violation of a mandatory
requirement but more like a non-implementation of a recommended, sane
method of operation.

Actually, it says:

In some cases, extra whitespace (spaces, line-breaks, tabs, etc.) may
have to be added to break a long URI across lines. The whitespace
should be ignored when the URI is extracted.

I'd prefer it not break them at all, but it doesn't seem to be a
violation. Once that have line-breaks aren't clickable from XanaNews,
but I understand that one can select the link and use the context menu
to go to the URL and have it work. I'll try it next time I see a long
one.

Some time back I saw a site that checked various newsreaders against
the relevant RFCs.

That might have been GNKSA - "The Good Net-Keeping Seal of Approval":

<http://www.xs4all.nl/~js/gnksa/>

I'll give that a look, thanks.
