Delia, bless her, fails sufficiently, IMHO, to
emphasise that, like wedding cake, Christmas cake can be kept almost
indefintely

In fecked, around here, it's not uncommon for couples
to be eating wedding cake many wedding anniversaries down the line. That
is to say, it's not uncommon for the wedding cake to outlast the
wedding.

Ours was 3 layers, getting progressively smaller (obviously). We cut the
big one up at the wedding (I ate as much marzipan [almond paste] as I could
get my hands on) and froze the smaller two. We ate the medium sized one on
our first anniversary (having first thawed it out. The cake, not the
marriage), and then the smallest as a Christening cake at our son's
Christening 3 years' later.

Isn't that really cute? Just thought I'd share it with you. <<sickly
down-home kinda smile>>

P.S. We're still married. But it's only been 8 years, so there there's
plenty of time for things to go wrong.
