That'd be me. Don't let's forget "cowardly ***". Dr. Aman is
respected enough in his field (though seemingly too impatient to follow a
line of argument) and regular enough when he's not too busy with other
things. I've only been reading alt.usage.english since 1994, so I
wouldn't presume to consider myself either regular or respected. But the
Good Doctor can probably list from memory the great university libraries
that have a greater holding of his works than I do, so he's probably aware
that I hold him in some regard, however much I may disagree with him when
he is wrong.
Dr. Aman is probably in a category with Young Kira and Young Bob. They
are people who have paid their dues in the real world, but are too busy to
read long sentences or spend much time viewing AUE-relevant videos. Some
people treat them with respect and others don't. But they have some pith
to them. They drop in and they drop out. Sort Of Respected Sort Of
Regulars, you might say. It's be unkind to label them SOR-heads, though.
By the way, I don't claim to have coined the phrase "my trusty old", but
good googlers can probably come up with some ratio relating to the usage.
