Re: History of the use of "roger" in radio communication

Does anyone know how "roger", and "wilco" came to be used in radio

The letter "R" was used for "received" in Morse code. When radio
transmissions came along, this was translated into the phonetic
alphabet, thus "Roger".

"Wilco" is a contraction of "Will Comply".

I think that's right; could be wrong, though.
