In other ways the contemptible Blair and his implacable hatred
of the countryside has been utterly thwarted. The poisonous,
strutting little tyrant tried to make fox-hunting with hounds
illegal. Ha! Ha! Hunting is now more popular than ever.

So that doom-saying by the hunters before the bill was passed --
dead dogs, destitute hunt employees, rampant foxes, dead sheep --
was just a load of hot air bollocks by the CA.

The CA's predictions might have been slightly overheated, but not
hopelessly inaccurate if hunting had come to a dead stop the way the
banners wanted.

All along the banners only wanted to stop hunting and killing live
foxes with dogs. At all times the option to change to "drag" hunting,
whereby the hounds chased a prepared scent, was available but for
reasons of barbarism was ignored. If, as the hunters claim, the thrill
of the chase is in the riding, rather than the killing, then what's the
problem?

Before JF leaps on me as a Blairite, might I say that I abhor the
little shit. No more am I a lefty killjoy, nor a class warrior. My
antecedents are in the classes that traditionally hunted - my late
uncle was MFH - and I've followed the hunt myself on a number of
occasions (though never on horseback - I'm not completely stupid). I
just think that any country that purports to be a mature, civilised
nation has no business allowing its citizens to torture sentient
animals for pleasure.
