I would ask him if i can post the rest, but the author is currently not in
Pest, but in Manilla on vacation, i think
--------
there is an 'otherness' to structure when non-native speakers compose in
english which is often expunged or lost when translated, that is, the
otherness is not transmitted - presumably to avoid an /association with
foreigness/?
what do you think?
some of these folks seem to have achieved what native wirters have not,
examples are perhaps conrad for prose and rimbaud for prose poems
i also note that in translating haiku from oriental sources, something seems
to be lost over when the writer composes in the presented language - even if
the translation is made by highly accomplished poets who are sympathetic to
the original sense and language
there are some exceptions in english - often when another english 'culture'
is the theme - as with hughes and animism for example [come Cynewulf!], so
that nothing is lost of the aboriginal child walking under the sun
