Take another look at all world flags that have green, yellow, and
red vertical stripes. They may have other features but the stripes
are the only visible part. That should be enough.

That's where I'm stuck. There are only two flags known to

  http://www.photius.com/flags/flag_identifier.html

that have stripes in order (from the pole, as it appears in the
picture) green, yellow, red: Mali and Senegal. I've tried all the Y
cities I can find in those countries with no luck. Guinea and
Rwanda have the stripes in the other order, but I had no better
luck with them. (My first guess was Cameroon, but that would need
the red in the middle.)

Since those of us who got stuck early didn't have a chance to play
the rest of the game, I'd like to request that the Committee reveal
the answer to this one gradually over time rather than all at once.

There's The Republic of Congo, that might have a flag that fits your criteria, but it has no Y cities that I can find. I wonder -- is the top color of the right flag in the picture really green? I thought it to be something dark -- black, even. Like in the Belgian flag. There I also don't see any Y cities.

My atlas only lists 50 y-cities; how long could it take to try them all? But I give in. This "y" is a capital "y".

But Jitze has written: Yup - prolly a Linux box, because http://www.dadge.org/sdc/Zilch.htm gives a 404 - I just checked the crib *** and it has all the answers rendered in all lower-case. So the picture you would have seen if you had got the above URL right would have been something beginning with "Y" and so on...

Which is somewhat ambiguous, of course. Is the crib *** wrong by using all lower-case letters?
