We need a three-way distinction, not two way. "Bottom
posting", if the expression is taken literally, can be about
as irritating as top posting. That is, if the responder
waits to start his or her response until all remarks in a
long posting have been quoted, the connection between remark
and response can be obscure.
The distinction that should be made is
1. Top posting
2. Bottom posting
3. Interleaved posting
Interleaved posting communicates most effectively of the
three.
