I've sussed you Joey. You're a 45yo English Lecturer in some kind of
FE College in the Greater NY area. Come clean now. It's time to be
open.

What's "FE"?

Google suggests it stands for "Further Education". It appears to be a BrE
term that corresponds roughly to our notion of 'continuing education', but
with some sort of specific twist that eludes me.

Ditto--and what's "sus"?

"Sus" I know -- it's 1960s British Mod slang, meaning "to figure [someone]
out".

OK, so now the question is, why does he think I'm a "FE professor",
whatever that means? As usual with strange/bizarre people, I DON'T GET
IT!

The change from "lecturer" to "professor" was surely a knowing attempt to wind up Brits. (BrE - "Professor": the most senior position in the hierarchy of university teachers; AmE - "Professor": any university teacher).

"Further Education" in BrE is any education beyond the statutory school leaving age, but below university level. An "FE College" would cater
primarily for 16-18 year olds, though would probably put on a fair number
of courses aimed at older returners to education.
