I know you know what you mean, but I'm blowed if I can agree with whatever it is. Should I reply that not many people are right, or that not many people are wrong? If science goes backwards it's no longer science (observation - hypothesis - test - theory) but mental decay.

There is now a push in Australia to introduce the "intelligent design" (read "fundamental christian") theory alongside evolution.

There was a letter in yesterday's Times that said (from memory) that "the evidence that doesn't fit with the Big Bang theory (but does fit with intelligent design) is growing". It appears that the writer did not consider that there could be a third option.
