Your post sounds like price is your most important consideration.
That's okay. However, while I don't know if higher price = good
reliability I'll wager that lower price does not. At the lower price
range, you're probably looking at a LCD with the cheaper models running
60Hz instead of the more desirable 120Hz. You might find the 120Hz better
for gaming or sports, otherwise you might not notice a difference.

Picture quality was important to me and I preferred Samsung over
all the others. I have 2 LCDs and so far I've not seen another brand
that I thought was better. I wouldn't buy anything based on reviews alone.
Go and look at them before you choose one.

OTOH... in my experience you want to steer as far away from 120/240Hz as you
can on a cheap set.

My GF's dad got an el cheapo Auria 55" 120Hz from Menards (buying a TV from
a hardware/lumber store is strike 1) The 120Hz motion interpolation sucks
and can't be disabled apparently due to a firmware glitch.

A 32" Coby of her grandmother's had the same issue but at least it could be
turned off, on both any movement on screen results in a jittering halo
around the moving object and if the screen pans the motion glitches like a
dropped or repeated frame once per second and static items like the network
logo bug jump around the screen.

Her dad is one of those "I don't care what it looks like as long as every
last square inch is in use" kind of guys hence he won't let me set up a
service visit to have the firmware updated and it is always in
stretch-o-vision mode from a DirecTV R15 DVR The only time the aspect ratio
is correct is when an anaorphic DVD is being played or if I am watching the
thing with him not around. The R15 is hooked to the DVD recorder via
S-video and from the VD recorder to the TV is also S-video and is only that
way because I hooked it up. He refuses to get the HD service from D* and
when he is watching the local channels he watches the 4x3 cropped SD from
the R15 in stretch mode instead of using the TV's OTA tuner and he lives on
top of a hill hence his OTA reception is almost flawless.
