TV as a monitor?

Can a 1080p hi def TV be used as a monitor? I've been seeing some good deals on
32 inch TV's and was wondering if one would work as a dedicated monitor> looked
up a 32 inch monitor and the prices were a little out of my league. I currently
use a 24 inch Dell monitor and the picture quality is great. Would the
resolution and quality and all be as good with a TV? Thanks.
