My TV is 720. I thought when I first got the TV, it was reading 1080 on

transmitting it that way to save on bandwidth. Maybe not though, just
guessing again.
Some boxes can be used to force the TV to 720. Suggest you try resetting
the TV because there ARE channels in 1080 (e.g. 807).

My TV can only handle 720 so it has to be converted at some time.
So when you wrote "when I first got the TV, it was reading 1080" you
are ready to withdraw that?

But, do you get any PEG station in 720?

No, I am not. I don't know why it was reading 1080. That is why I am theorizing that the cable company decided to downconvert all 1080 signals to 720, which is still HD. The software for the HD box gets updated automatically so I don't know if it was a software change or a change in the way it is being transmitted but I distinctly remember it reading 1080 for CBC, which uses 1080i. Come to think of it, I have a different HD box, although it is the same brand and model number but I still think it has something to do with the cable company.

Well, yes, but only because it's their box. Most digital receivers,
almost certainly including your cable box, have the ability to force
the output resolution to any common one such as 480i, 480p, 720p or
1080i. There will also be an option NOT to force it, i.e. to pass
along the resolution of the source, often called Native. Don't
confuse that with the native resolution of your TV, which is
apparently 1280x720. This is something you can change in the box's
menus or possibly on the front panel.

Your original box was probably set to Native resolution or possibly to
force 1080i, and your TV reported the resolution it was receiving
before converting it to its own native resolution. Your new box is
set to force 720p. That's fine if the box does at least as good a
conversion job as your TV does and if you don't care to know the real
resolution. But you should at least find out how to change the box's
output resolution and set it to Native (or whatever it's called) for a
while to find out what your cable company is really sending.

Went to the cable company store just down the block. They had a different box from a different manufacturer but it still said it was outputting at 1080i so I will have to call and have them walk me through.
I did set a setting to pass through and I assumed that was for format.
