What do you mean "public access television"?
Oh. Yeah we have it in Toronto.
Yes you do - over cable - and it is called
"PEG" (public , education , govt) in most
places.
But does ANYONE have PEG in HD? Anywhere?
720 or 1080?
do they have a full clear QAM channel?
I don't know whether it is 720 or 1080. Everything HD seems to come
out
720 from the HD box so that may be the way they are transmitting
everything. Not sure, just guessing.
I am watching it through me HD box. I think everything HD needs to be
watched through the box so I assume it is not clear QAM.
The box actually passes through the clear QAM channels. You can
experiment with this by plugging the cable directly into the HD TV
and asking it to scan.
If your box only shows 720 - you should get a new box! (unless your
set is 720 only
or is set to deliver 720 only instead of 'auto').
Some boxes may deliver in 720 but it is actually 480 content - hard to
be sure from here.
My TV is 720. I thought when I first got the TV, it was reading 1080 on
at least some channels but now it doesn't seem to. They may be
transmitting it that way to save on bandwidth. Maybe not though, just
guessing again.
Some boxes can be used to force the TV to 720. Suggest you try resetting
the TV because there ARE channels in 1080 (e.g. 807).
So when you wrote "when I first got the TV, it was reading 1080" you
are ready to withdraw that?
But, do you get any PEG station in 720?
No, I am not. I don't know why it was reading 1080. That is why I am theorizing that the cable company decided to downconvert all 1080 signals to 720, which is still HD. The software for the HD box gets updated automatically so I don't know if it was a software change or a change in the way it is being transmitted but I distinctly remember it reading 1080 for CBC, which uses 1080i. Come to think of it, I have a different HD box, although it is the same brand and model number but I still think it has something to do with the cable company.
