I also looked at the many 32" sets; of which the vast majority on display
were 720p. From the expected viewing distance (across our bedroom) which I
could not duplicate in the store aisle, I'm also wondering whether the
difference between 720 and 1080 would be obvious on a 32" set. From 2 feet
away the 720p sets certainly looked like crap in the store.
My opinion is that if you are used to watching a 32" SD set, you're
going be disappointed in the size of a 32" wide screen display. The
actual height of an image on that wide screen will be quite a bit
shorter than you're used to.
The generally accepted formula for screen size is to take your SD size
times 1.3 for a close equivalent size in a wide screen. That puts you
close to a 42" and since your cabinet requires closer to 37" you might
want to keep looking for a 37" that suits you better. The throw away
brands (like our 1080p Vizio) can be had for less than $600 so I would
think in the $750-$800 range you should be able to find something you
like. Personally I'd keep looking for a 37" even if the reviewer
claims that "size doesn't matter".

Seems to me that this is one great reason to never buy an
entertainment center with a tv enclosure.
