While there are some SD sub channels NOW, that's only because a Large

HDTV.

Considering the state of the economy, that "point in the future" may
be a long, Long, LONG time into the future. There are few people who
can afford the high prices of HDTVs right now. Even the small ones
are way to costly. Then I ask myself..... why would I want one? The
commercials will suck just as much on HDTV, and Springer Show and
Soaps will still suck just as much as they do on SDTV. So maybe I'll
be able to see the lacing on the football when I watch the
Superbowl.... Big deal!

Well your Here, so you must have some interest in HDTV's. Fact is HDTV's are still flying off the shelf. Who says your buying your HDTV only for TV programs. As for Commercials, I see so few, you see there's this thing called a DVR(Digital Video Recorder) and well I Record the shows I plan to watch, and then I just Fast Forward right though them commercials in about 20 seconds. Any faster and I blow though the program I want to see to much and then end up having to go Reverse.

I don't watch the Springer Show. I don't watch Soaps. I'm not on my ass at home watching Daytime TV. How about a nice Blu-Ray movie. No need to pay $10 for a ticket plus even more for any snacks. Dealing with annoying Chatterers, or Cell Phone, or Laser pointers, and all the other crap in the Theater. I sit back on my nice Reclining Sofa just under 7 feet from my 50" 1080P Plasma HDTV, surrounded by my 5.1 Surround sound setup watching HD DVD or Blu-Ray movies in 1080P, sometimes DVD, or streaming Netflix. It's even better then the theature. I can take a piss break when I need to and not miss anything. Eat whatever Snack(s) I like all in Piece and quite from the annoyance from others. All in High Quality HD Picture and Sound!!! I'm not Rich, but prices have dropped so far these days that a Nice Home theater is in the reach of far more people these days. You don't have to get everything at once either. I also don't watch much sports. I think I saw like 10 minutes of the last Super Bowl.

I'm glad your fine on your 20" SDTV or whatever cheap TV you have. I guess it's better then nothing at all. Myself I jumped to a HDTV 6 years ago and am on my Second HDTV. I can't wait to see what'll be out in another 5-6 years if I want to upgrade again. I'm guessing you would have been one of them that was perfectly fine with a B&W TV when Color came out and you didn't want to pay for a Color TV. Of course this might be before your time, but same type of thing. Those Early Regular small screen huge Box SDTV's were quite costly. Prices will continue to drop and at some point, you to will end up getting a HDTV. Maybe it's only a 20" HDTV, but still.
