Extending the deadline does absolutely nothing. Broadcasters can
already stop analog early and many have. Extending the deadline
doesn't prevent that.
Also, it doesn't matter when the change takes place some people won't
be ready. Let's go ahead and let the bitching begin because the
sooner we do the sooner it will end. I don't think it matters at all
when the transition happens.
One other point about the money is that in this state (Kansas),
somewhere around 30% of the coupons have not been redeemed.
If this figure runs consistent across the nation, there will still be
lots of money in the program as these coupons expire.
I think more people are coming to the realization that perhaps they
don't need a converter, either because they have TVs that will work or
have cable or satellite.
