I never said the old splitter was a 1 GHz splitter. I don't know what it was, other than it worked fine for SD, transmitted the lower channel HD fine, but not the higher channel HD.
Well, no. You never did say that the old splitter was a 1GHz splitter. But
in not mentioning that fact while all along taking part in this discussion,
you have certainly given the impression that you believed it to be so. And
again, virtual channel number has NOTHING to do with transmitted frequency.
Channel 735 HD may well be transmitted at a lower frequency than channel
335 SD.
Using your logic, a person who buys a 2.3 GHz splitter for $6.00 when a 1 GHz splitter for $2.00 might work fine, would be just as likely to install fiber optic cabling. Only someone with an IQ of 79 would come to that conclusion.
Ya lost me here, Sparky. How "fiber optic cabling" fits into this discussion
escapes me. YOU put in a 2.4 (2.3) GHz splitter. It fixed the problem. YOU
came to the faulty conclusion that a 2.4 (2.3) GHz splitter was needed. YOU
stated here that "A passive or powered splitter that is suitable for HD should
be capable of Two Gigahertz (2000 MHz) or higher bandwidth." How you came to
*that* conclusion by replacing the faulty splitter with a 2.3GHz splitter is
beyond me.
When I was advised by the cable company technical support that the existing splitter probably lacked sufficient frequency support for HD...
Oh, so *now* it was a cable company tech that swayed you. OK. ;)
I just hope it wasn't the same tech that told you that "off-the-air HD is
typically superior to cable or satellite which use compression of the
signals."
