This is really funny. What a load of crap. It seems to me that
YOU're the greedy one.
Let me ask it of YOU, then: if I watch every commercial and then
actively boycott every advertiser, am I then stealing the entertainment?
Wasn't it YOU who called Hulu "bait and switch"? (Never mind that's not
what the phrase means, but I understood what you meant.) Well, that's
what has happened to mainstream TV advertising. Years ago, it wasn't
obnoxious and it was tolerable. They BAITED the viewing public into
watching TV. Now they've SWITCHED how they implement THEIR end of the
model, such that there are practially more commercials than
entertainment.
Years ago there were three networks with far bigger percentages of viewers.
With today's plethora of cable/sat programming and the onslaught of the
internet, the return per advertisement is not nearly as favorable for the
advertiser or the broadcaster. I haven't done the research to support this
statement but I'm pretty certain the big three make far less money today on
a percentage basis than in years past. They are for the most part trying to
stay in business.
*I* know that Hulu et al. will do what's needed to get people used to
their concept, and will then switch to a higher revenue model that will
involve nothing more than "shove more ads at them". They'll do that
because that's all they know. But for right now, I'm happy to take
advantage of what Hulu et al. are offering, because their price is very
LOW.
When they SWITCH to a high price, I will stop partaking--or I will use
their own model and current technology against them, the same way I use
a DVR that skips commercials automatically.
The only way they have any hope of saving their model is to put a credit
card slot into the DVR, then credit my account for each commercial that
I let play through. Skip commercial, no payment--let commercial play,
they pay.
Should read...skip commercial YOU PAY, watch the commercial NO PAYMENT.
